Hi! I’m Katie and I have three kids age 4, 3, and 1. I have been interested in homeschooling for a while and now that my oldest is kindergarten age soon, I have to make some decisions. We have been using your Letter of the Week and K4 curriculums and love them!! We recently tried a couple lapbooks for preschool age and loved them as well. I love the idea of Charlotte Mason. My kids can’t get enough books! I lean toward homeschooling for many reasons but mainly because I want to teach my children to walk with Jesus and to protect them from unwanted outside influences.
Hello, I’m Heather. I have 11 year old twin girls. We use mostly Charlotte Mason/living books, with a little of everything else thrown in. We started homeschooling when my girls were in 1st grade and M had spinal surgery and we knew she would need to miss at least half ofthe school year. We continue to homeschool because it is what’s best for our girls. I look forward to being a part of this community.
Hello All. I am Michelle. We have been homeschooling for 8 years! I have 4 children, ages 12, 10, 8, and 6 - 3 girls and 1 boy. Our style is traditional/eclectic. I always plan a very tradtional curriculum/plan for the year, but lots of extras and crazy stuff gets added in throughout the year. We homeschool because I love being with my kids, and we love the flexibility homeschoolong gives us in our schedule, but also in our choices of what to study. We are fortunate to live in an area with lots of other homeschoolers, so there are plenty of opportunities for activities with friends.
I am so excited about this forum. This is one of the best homeschooling sites out there. I have 3 kids - 6, 4, and 2. This is my first year homeschooling. I also teach preschool 4 mornings a week at our church. I taught in public school for 3 years before I resigned to take the preschool position and have been teaching preschool for 6 years. I started thinking about home school as soon as our first daughter was born. I know that God has been preparing me to be a homeschool teacher for a very long time. This site has been so important in helping me to get organized and consider things that I might have overlooked. I love the LOTW curriculum and often use parts of it to supplement our preschool curriculum. I also use the meal plan and love the recipes!!
Hello! My name is Tiffany & i’ve been homeschooling for 9 years. We have 7 children (5 sons & 2 daughters). In that mix I have 3 high school students, 3 elementary students & a toddler
The teaching style that I like best is Classical, but I started out with Unit Studies/eclectic using My Father’s World (which we used and loved for 4 years.
We started homeschooling to help our oldest daughter who at the tender age of 6 was struggling in school. We then brought the rest of the gang (two boys at that time) home.
I’m looking forward to making some new friends and encouraging others is this rewarding and challenging journey called homeschooling!
I’m Jennifer and this is our second year homeschooling. We have four kids: twin 7-year-olds, 5-year-old, and a 2-year-old. I haven’t found my style yet but we it’s mostly traditional. We’re trying to venture into new things. Looking forward to connecting here!
Hi I’m Amber. I have 3 children ages 11,5 and 3. We are in our 2nd year of homeschooling and I’m still trying to figure it out. We tend to use a more traditional style of teaching. We decided to homeschool shortly after common core was introduced into the schools. It was not something we wanted our children to be taught. We love being able to include God’s word in all of our subjects and show how He is apart of everything. We also enjoy the freedom of a flexible schedule.
Hi! I’m Jamie. I’ve been homeschooling for 11 years now. I have 2 sons (20 &14) and a daughter(9). I have always homeschooled traditionally doing what’s right for our family. Each one of my kids learns in a different way so it definately takes some time to research all the different homeschool options out there! But it’s definately worth it in the end! Erica, I have followed you for about a year and a half now and have tried lots of your different DIY’s!! So glad I found you!
Hello
My name is Heather and I’m fairly new to homeschooling. I’m getting a head start with my children. I have a 4 year old little girl named Ellie (Elora) and a 2 year old little boy named Gavin.
I’m noticing that I’m a very eclectic teaching style. I want to introduce my children to as much as I can in different ways. I always get excited to teach them new things and to have them explore!
I love the curriculum that Erica has put together for preschool and K4 and I can not wait to get my children started on it.
My family and I newly Christians. My husband and I have been saved last year and are now in the works of our baptism. I am also thrilled to help to teach my children about God and add that to the daily routine. I learn more and more each day and I’m always excited to share with my family. I have chosen homeschooling because I feel as though God has led me to do this. Also, I feel as though God has led me to you too, Erica. Everything you have done and accomplished has been so helpful and I thank you so much!! So far my children’s schedule is modeled off of your teeny tot schedule. It’s the only one that has worked for all of us so far
All in all, I’m so happy to have found this site! Thank you, thank you, thank you!
Hi, I’m Coreline. We have been homeschooling for three years and I have a 9 and 10 year old. We use an eclectic mix of curriculum so I guess I would call myself an eclectic homeschooler. I lean more towards the Charlotte Mason method but am very traditional in other areas. We did do three years of public school, it took that long for God to prepare my heart for homeschooling. I was saddened by the education system but also just really missed my kids. Now that they’ve been home 3 years, homeschooling has become a way of life for us and I just love it. I love the time we have together, that Christ is at the center of our home and schooling and that we are growing and learning together.
My name is Jennifer and I’ve been homeschooling for 4 years. I have two children, a boy and a girl. We are very similar to Erica, in that we use a traditional/eclectic teaching style. We use a mix of various curriculum. Our new discovery for this year has been Heart of Dakota. We love it! Wish we had found it earlier and plan to use it all the way through to college!
We began homeschooling when my daughter was in kindergarten. She went for the first six weeks to public school, but after being the victim of several hate crimes we withdrew her from the school and have been homeschooling since.
I had been homeschooled for a time myself and had always considered it an option for my children, yet did not expect God to bring us to it quite the way He did. However, His ways are always best and it has been such a huge blessing in my life.
Hi, I’m Marla! We live in Japan, I’ve been a missionary here for 18 years. DH was born and raised here. We are church planters and music evangelists. I have two darlings, 10 years old daughter, 6 year old son. We’ve been homeschooling for 5 years. I use My Father’s World and Math-U-See. Looking forward to being part of the community here!!!
Hi I am Donna and I have 5 kids ranging in age from 4 thru 12. We have been homeschooling from the start. My schooling style is mostly Montessori but brings in mix of different styles to meet each child’s unique learning needs. Mostly I am a fan of learning through play and exploration. We made the choice to homeschool for a variety of reasons mainly wanting to give our children the best education possible in a safe environment, that still allows them to be kids. My boys would not make it in a traditional class, they are high energy boys! Plus I love the freedom to follow their interests and passions.
Hi everyone! I’m Priscilla. I will begin homeschooling my 3 girls starting this summer. My oldest has been victim to bullying and we just felt it in our hearts that homeschooling was the right thing for us to do as a family. I’m looking into the eceltic learning style. I have a lot of energy and love out of the box thinking as well as my girls. I’m excited to absorb as much wisdom as I can before we begin this journey!!
Hi Erica,
We have been homeschooling for 4 years. Our sons are 8 and 6, brothers, adopted through the foster care system.
We homeschool for several reasons:
- Medical - our 8 year old is on peritoneal kidney dialysis and it is just so much easier to teach on a schedule that fits his doctors’ appointment schedule without having gaps in learning. He also learns better at specific times in the day because of the kidney disease, medications and dialysis.
- Our boys needed to learn at a speed comfortable to them, starting at the point they were at in language and learning when we became their parents. This approach has brought them from a functioning vocabulary of 20 words between them 4 years ago to grade level this year.
- This is FUN! I substitute taught for 20 years in the public school system and really loved seeing students learn. Watching our sons learn is just so remarkable and fun.
- My husband and I love working together on this family project.
Our teaching methods - traditional - but with lots of history immersion as both my husband and I work part-time for the National Park Service at an historic site - the boys have been learning the site’s history and participating in living history for the last four years. My background as a military instrumental musician - tuba - made me want to involve them in music as rapidly as possible. Violins come in small sizes - we started with a 1/10th and a 1/16th and are now up t o 1/4 sizes.

Hi, My name is Alicia and I have 4 kids. I started homeschooling my kiddos for preschool. Sent them to school for a short time and then decided to begin homeschooling. I have one in second grade, one in kindergarten and one currently starting preschool. My two year old likes to ‘do school’ as well! I’m leaning more toward the traditional/eclectic style. I love the flexibility that homeschooling allows!
Hello! I’m a single, special needs homeschooling Mom to three wonderful boys! We are in our 4th year now and are still “learning the ropes” so to speak. I am a huge fan of the Confessions blog and I hope to encourage as well as learn about all the different curriculum options out there for special needs learners. What works for some and what may have not worked best. (Lord knows we have tried our share) The more information, the better! Nice to meet you! God bless!
Hello,
My name is Erica and I have 3 daughters that I would like to homeschool. I have never homeschooled before and my daughters are 4, 4, and 2 years old. Since I have never homeschooled I really do not know what teaching style I like best. I feel like homeschooling would be the best route for my daughters, however I am a little nervous because I do not personally know anyone who has homeschooled their children.

Hey Everyone! I’m Rachel and I have 3 kiddos. Two boys (6 & 3) and a little girl who is 7 months. We’ve been considering homeschooling since my first was born, but felt led to have him go to our tiny public school for the last couple years. We’ve continued to pray about the option of homeschooling and feel like we should tentatively plan to bring him home this next fall. My husband is a pastor and the flexibility and family time offered by homeschooling would be invaluable to us with his crazy schedule. This forum is starting at a perfect time for me as I’m feverishly planning and researching curriculums, etc… for next year! I’m pretty nervous and crazy excited about the start of this journey!
Hi all! I’m Shakeeta, mom to 3 littles ages 5, almost 3, and 2 months. This is my first year homeschooling (or giving it a practice run). Next year, I’ll be doing K5 & K3 officially and I can’t wait. Our approach is definitely Eclectic because I can’t pick just one style and go with that lol We started homeschooling because the preschool that the kids were attending was becoming something we didn’t like so we started to explore homeschooling. I’m really glad that we did because I love it!
