I’m up at 4:30 to read Bible and pray before going to work from 6 to 10. I get home at 10:30 and try to get circle time in before I cook lunch. Then when my 3 year old goes down for a nap, I start school from about 11:30 or noon until 4. I have to finish at 4 bc we are off each day at 4:30 for either the gym, dance, church, etc. (like everyone). I have a question though, I have been using work boxes with my k12 curriculum for about a month now and love it. More than half of the boxes can be done independently (handwriting, spelling, art, etc.). Do you think it is terrible if I have my kids do those type of activities while I am at work? They seem to love doing this but I feel guilty because I feel that I should be there with them. At the same time, when they do these activities on their own, we have less to do when I get home, which helps. Thoughts?
I don’t really have much to contribute regarding our schedule since it’s always changing and we’re still trying to figure it out. Ha. I do want to say thanks to everyone who replied with that their schedules are. It’s helpful to have many different ideas. We’re trying different schedules to see what works for us. THANKS!
Thanks for sharing! This coming year Id like to be more organized and have more of a daily schedule!
Okay, I’m not sure I’m in the right forum for this one but I have one in high school this year and I’m clueless about scheduling the classes. We’re doing biology this year and I’m not sure if I should make it an every day class or space it out. My dd has a full load and so I wanted to kinda lighten the load a bit. Any suggestions?
Thanks everyone!
Blessings,
Mariel
I understand where you’re coming from. But I think that if they are able to do some of it on their own, like Penmanship, Arithmetic perhaps, and English, as long as they are actually grasping the new info, that should be fine. You would most likely want to check their work and you’d know if this is actually a doable concept or if you need to be there with them; at least it should give you an idea of which subjects you can do that with. Reading is most likely to be an easy one for them to do on their own, and I think Penmanship as well, if they already have learned it and are now practicing and perfectioning only. It must be different for every family, depending on what resources they are using, and which subjects are of greater importance.
How much work is there to be done? I guess what I mean is, if you were to break down each chapter into everyday lessons, is there a lot to cover or would it be doable in 2 days per week instead?
I think that if you are wondering about whether or not she will retain what she’s learning if only doing it 1 or 5 days a week, I believe that if she did it once per week she should be fine.
If your concern isn’t about retention then I’d suggest trying a couple of different schedules during the first couple of weeks and seeing how it goes. We have made so many adjustments that I no longer desire planning out an entire year right off the bat!
@GC123 Oh my word! I always make up several schedules and end up throwing them out the window. It just never works. However, somewhere in the mess there’s a routine we follow but it’s just not put down on paper or talked about - we just go with it. ha ha, does that make sense? This year I think is just going to have to be about trial and error for us I guess. I’m going to try both spacing the chapters out and condensing the work and see which one will be easier. You’ve given me stuff to think about. Thanks so much. Have a wonderful school year!
I just checked out your blog and LOVED IT!!! I’d love to PM you and talk!
Thanks so much! PM me any time!
