Hi. I’m Irma. I’ve been married for 11 years. We have 2 children. A boy, 7 years old and a girl, 1.5 years old. My son is in 2nd grade. This is my first year homeschooling. We use Lifepac from Alpha Omega and we love it. I love how each subject incorporates the Bible, God and Jesus in some way. My son loves being homeschooled because I can teach him about God. We took him out of public school because we didn’t like some of the things he was being taught and certain things that were going on with him while at school. We made the best decision for our son and are happy we did! Thank you Erica for creating your site and this community forum. I learned a lot from reading your blog and know I have a lot more to learn… your book Homeschooling 101 would be a big help!

Hi! My name is Tabitha and my husband is Steven. Yes, he teaches the kids too! We have been homeschooling for about 3 years. We have a 7, 5, & 3 year old. Our prefrence is eclectic. We started homeschooling for many reasons, but mostly we just think God blessed us with the ability and opportunity.

My name is Tracy. This is our first year homeschooling. We have 3 daughters (Kindergarten, 2nd grade & 5th grade). We are eclectic in our curriculum choices, having a mix seems to work for us. We started homeschooling for various reasons, but most importantly it was something we prayed about and felt that God led us to this as the best way to educate our girls. This has been a great year, we have learned a lot about each other and we are looking forward to continuing this journey for years to come.

Hello from Freezing cold Ontario, Canada. I’m Jenn and am just venturing into Homeschooling. My husband and I have 3 children. 2 girls and then a boy. Aged 4.5, 2.5, and 5.5 months (2010, 2012, 2014) I’m actually a certified teacher and never thought I would be homeschooling but schools have changed since the time I was there. (and there is now new health ed curriculum being released that is causing some waves (Google it if you have time: ā€œOntario’s new sex educationā€) So I’m not sure what my style will be but thinking I’m going to pull from everything-I am excited that I don’t have to do the same thing with each child. I’m most anxious about remembering to teach at (or just above) their level. . . I usually taught grade 5 &6 so teaching all the beginning things is newer to me… Example: I tried to have my daughter write her letters print size before we practiced any of them big. oops but we learned and our mastering things now. (See mom’s learn too when we homeschool)

I pulled my son out of school last February and began our homeschooling adventure. He loves it so much and I’m so thankful we made the right choice for him and us. He has autism and spd and school was just to much on him and he was coming home with marks and bruises. He is so sad while attending school, it was horrible to get him up and ready. Now he loves homeschooling and loves getting up and getting started!! Best thing for our family!!!

Hi I’m Anna. I have one 4-year old son and we just started homeschooling preschool this year. I thought we’d homeschool his preschool years to try it out. So far so good! I think my teaching style is a mix of traditional and eclectic. It’s only been 5 months so it’s hard to tell  I decided to homeschool because the school he’d be attending in Maryland kind of scared me, but then we moved Washington state and the schools scare me less over here. We’ll take one year at a time and see how it goes.

First of all, thanks, Erica, for setting up this forum. I use your website often for resources and guidance, so I will probably use this forum a great deal too! I’ve been homeschooling for two years and have three children (ages 6 and under). So far, I’ve used a mix of work texts and eclectic styles. I started homeschooling, because I love to learn and hope to share that passion with my children.

Hi! My name is Christina and I’ve been homeschooling my 2 children for 3 years. My son is 11 and my daughter is 8 almost 9. I pulled them out of public school when he was in 3rd grade and she was in kindergarten. We have many reasons as to why we homeschool but one of the main reasons is we wanted them to grow up in a God centered world. I have learned so many things from your blog and I’m so thankful that I found you.

Hi my name is Linda I have 2 kids, 11 and 5. We are actually starting our first homeschool year this summer. We wanted to start as we are so unhappy with the local public schools. We feel they are so far from where they need to be and we want to really give our children the best education. While I am super excited, I am honestly scared but know that on the other side it will be amazing for all of us

Hi! My name is Krystal. I have 4 children. They are 6, 4 1/2, almost 2 and one due in 2 months  I never thought that I would homeschool before I met my husband. He was homeschooled through 8th grade and when we were dating he mentioned that if we married we would homeschool our children. That was actually our first fight! I was working on my teaching degree at the time and homeschooling was not in my plans. Well needless to say, I have wholeheartedly come to his way of thinking. I am grateful every day to have this opportunity! We have been working with our oldest since he was very little and I enjoyed doing a lot of tot school activities with him. I can’t really pick a date when we started, so I’m going to say basically 6 years  However, my son is now in Kindergarten so in some ways I consider this our first year. My oldest daughter went through the LOTW program and is currently using your K4 curriculum. We love them! Thank you so much for your hard work and for providing this forum! I am looking forward to using it!

My name is Melissa. I have been homeschooling for about 3 years. The first year or two were very relaxed, though. This is the first year that we’ve really stuck to completing curriculum. We have 2 girls, aged 6 (1st grade) and 5 (starts K in fall). I am torn between Charlotte Mason and Classical education principles. I believe in a gentle start to schooling. I started homeschooling because I felt God telling me to before my 1st child was even born. Our 2nd child ended up having numerous medical issues, so she would suffer greatly in a typical school situation. God knew about this little girl, and that’s why He told me to homeschool all those years ago. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve visited the ā€œcurriculum forumā€ pages, so I’m so happy about this forum!!

Hi! My name is Lynnea and I’ve been homeschooling for a year! So very new! I have a daughter who is almost finished with first grade and a little boy due in 4 weeks! We like classical and Charlotte mason style of learning. We use my fathers world and it seems to incorporate both styles very well for us. We started homeschooling because in kindergarten my daughter was coming home with incomplete work because of being distracted so therefore wasn’t learning what she needed to be learning and not to mention all the bad habits she was already picking up! I was already a stay at home mom and after months of prayer and going to a convention, talking to friends who homeschooled, my husband knew we were called to do this. It’s a hard journey and I’ve only been doing it a year! But it’s also so rewarding and at the end of the day we love it!

Hi, I’m Carli! I have 4 kids ages 6 (girl), 4 (girl), 3 (boy), and 18 months (boy). This is our first year to home school so we are still figuring out our style…I see a lot of positive things in each of the ā€œstylesā€ I read about so we take what works for us and modify what doesn’t! My husband and I both prayed a lot about possibly home schooling when our oldest was still pretty young and felt like God was calling us to take on the challenge! I have enjoyed our first year so far and I’m excited to learn from everyone!

Hello! My name is Julie and I have been homeschooling for a little over a year now. We are so glad that the Lord opened the door for me to stay home with my three little ones after my 3rd was born. I have a 7 year old boy, 5 year old girl and my youngest son is almost 2. We are still finding our groove with a routine that works for us. The decision to homeschool was the best decision we have made for our family. My kids are building relationships with other people of all ages through our homeschool groups. They have had opportunities to travel to see relatives and we are not stuck to a desk or table for hours during the day. Thank you for this forum. I look forward to gleaning information and encouragement from all of you and hope for the opportunity to offer some too!

I’m Cindy. I am preparing to start homeschooling my 3 children this next school year. They will be 3rd Grade, 1st Grade and Pre-K. I am so excited to get started as my kids just haven’t fit into public school’s one size fits all approach for various reasons. Thank you for providing this resource, your blog and book have been instrumental in helping with our decision and now helping us decide the logistics of how we will do school in our home, and I’m sure this will be yet another great resource.

Hi! My name is Tina. This is our first year of homeschooling. I have 3 children and we started out at a private school but for many reasons we decided to try homeschooling this year. I have 2 currently at home and I will bring my third home from the private school next year. We have really enjoyed ourselves! We try to do classical but I am open to whatever works for each of my children.

Hi! I’m Katie, the mom of 3 cute girlies (ages 5, 3, 22 mo) and one unknown gender in womb! I just decided to get off the fence about homeschooling so we’ll beginning kindergarten at home next fall. (Yep - baby is likely to be born sometime in August, so I’m a tad nervous but oh well.) Personality-wise, I’m a dreamer/idea girl but have a difficult time following through with my ideas i.e. lots of homeschool pins, few completed projects. No idea what type of schooling I’ll tend to but I really like most of Erica’s posts/methods. (Now, I just have to actually print them off!! haha) Looking forward to being encouraged on this journey.

I have 2 children. A 5 and almost 3yo. This is my first year of homeschooling. This path was laid before us when my son begged me to teach him since he wasn’t comfortable in a school setting. I believe it was because he was so happy that I was now staying home to take care of them (opposed to going to work) and really wanted the bonding time. That brought joy to my heart and I got me on the venture of homeschooling. I lean more towards traditional/eclectic style and I change things up so that my son doesn’t get stagnant.

I have been homeschooling for all of 7 months now, my oldest started preschool in August. I have three children, ages 4 and under. I can’t say that I’ve settled on a teaching style yet, our approach has been rather exploratory so I will say eclectic. I started homeschooling in part at my husband’s recommendation - he had a wonderful experience homeschooling as a child. I also find that I want to be a greater part of my children’s formation while they are so young, instilling faith, virtue, character and a love of learning. Piece of cake, right? Sure. I’m happy to be a part of this forum and am eager to glean knowledge from the wide community!
