Help Me! Kindergarten in Iowa!

I am not sure where to begin, what category I would or should fall under…

Here in Iowa there are three choices:

Competent Private Instruction (CPI)

Option 1 (provided or supervised by a licensed practitioner)
Option 2 (provided by a parent, guardian, or custodian)

or

Independent Private Instruction (IPI)

I would be able to choose from CPI: Option 2 or IPI.

Opting to be under IPI seems to be a free for all, no rules, no reporting or assessing and no assurance the School District will grant a child a diploma.

CPI options are as follows:
Option 2 with Dual Enrollment
Option 2 with Optional Reporting
Option 2 with No Reporting (Private Instruction Exemption)

Opting to be under CPI seems to be similar to IPI if you choose to be exempt from filling out anything if you choose to do no reporting. Another option for the CPI would be optional reporting–you fill out the same forms as a Dually enrolled child would, but you are not required to evaluate; but may turn it into the district.

Does anyone here live in Iowa or have advice on which path is the best? What similar path did you choose Erica?

I am panicking here people! lol

Thank you and I truly appreciate any input!

Hi! We didn’t choose to be under an umbrella school at all. In Colorado, we have the option to do totally private instruction. But we do have to complete annual assessments or testing and send that into the school district. It sounds like the IPI option has more flexibility for you so I might lean that way, but I don’t feel totally qualified to answer you. I would direct you to www.hslda.org they are great at explaining things. And you should also be able to contact your local school district and ask them questions as well. They should be able to help you decide which option would be best for your family
