My daughter, who will be starting 2nd grade this year, has decided that she would like to learn French. I do not speak French at all so what would be a good beginner French curriculum for her? I came across what looks to be an amazing deal on Homeschool Buyers Co-op for Sara Jordan Bilingual Kids Audio Series but I can not find any reviews on it anywhere so I am hesitant to get it without reading reviews since I can’t look at it before purchasing. Has anyone tried it or is there something else that woould be “better”? I also am unsure if I should get the PreK-1st bundle or go ahead and start 2nd-5th bundle. Would she be missing out on important information if I skip the PreK-1st?
Hey! I know I’m late, but I’m researching French programs. Did you happen to try the Sara Jordan Bilingual Kids? Any opinion or feedback? Or did you find something you like better? Thanks!
Hi! I didn’t hear from anyone using it so I didn’t try it. So far she has been trying out various free apps that I found and she is enjoying those, although, she’s not really learning a lot with it. I gave up for this year but will look into it again in the spring for next year. Sorry I’m not much help. Let me know if you find anything that sounds good.
We tried something this past year that looked promising (Petra-Lingua?.. I have young children, so this seemed perfect - not for fluency, but for an intro), but it ended up being a horrible waist of money - we only got about 3 “lessons” in before scrapping it. We have a friend who has a French teacher come to her house - very affordable, but the timing didn’t work for us this year - hoping to give it a try next year. Other than that there doesn’t seem to be much out there for French. We have Rosetta Stone, but we haven’t even opened it - I know that’s for older students.
I have been looking for a good French program for my 5th grader with little luck. Right now we are just doing Dulingo but I’m not sure how much she is retaining yet.
I checked with Rosetta Stone too and they said she would be to young for it.
So far Duolingo has been the best that we have used but, like you said, I don’t think she is really retaining much.
