What are some fun activities/items to put in workboxes to add a little fun to the other traditional schoolwork?
You can’t go wrong with surprises in workbox drawers! Just to mix things up, I have added to the science drawer a baggie filled with toothpicks and mini-marshmallows for a fun construction project. Math Dice Jr. comes in a little cinched bag that’s easy to add to the math drawer. Vocabulary Word memory game. Treats (think stocking stuffers) for jobs well done! New play-doh color with googly eyes and string. Surprise music cd to pop in and wiggle out some energy before continuing with lessons. A stack of pre-printed numbers on paper so they can spread them out on the floor and hop out their math facts. I can’t wait to see what other people come up with! Great question!
I have a workbox tag for “games”, and the kids love to see a game tag! We play bingo a lot, and the cool thing with bingo is that you can create a bingo game for all ages and subjects. Letter recognition for little ones and states and capitals and math facts for kids a little older.
We have a snack tag too and the kids love snacks. I like to stick silly things in their boxes once in awhile like a goofy eraser or a pack of dollar store stickers.
Sometimes I put in a small puzzle or his Creative Color Cubes with one design card. I also put in a tag to Walk the Dog with Mom and we go for a walk around the block before continuing the day. I also like to put in a deck of cards and we play math games with them. Sometimes I put in construction paper cutouts of a scene from our Bible story and he glues it onto another piece of paper. Occasionally, I will give him some Legos and ask him to build something specific or do a free-build. He also likes watercolors so I may put in some paints, a brush, and a piece of construction paper to paint whatever he wants.
