DIBELS or reading assessments

Does anyone use DIBELS assessment in their reading curriculum? I used it last year and halfway through this year until we switched to AAR. I am just unsure if it is really needed or is it busy work. I have taught in the public school system but I am rethinking a lot of what we make our kids do.

We don’t use dibels, but I do a fast 5 minute reading assessment with each kid 4xs / year - and we have literature/ reading every day. I don’t like busy work which is an easy trap to fall into, but I think having some pieces that show their progress is important. I use scholastic 3 minute reading assessment book - everything u need for a quick assessment for grades 1-4 ( I think they also have a version for grades 5+)
