Welcome to the homeschooling community!

When I started out, my husband directed me to A Beka curriculum (as that was what was his mother used with him and his siblings). I looked up where their Materials Displays were (there were two close by locations at the time) and the rest is history.

I am so glad we started with A Beka as it gave us a strong foundation for the rest of our homeschooling years. I have moved away from it for some subjects in most grade levels but it was definitely a good start for me.

Blessings

Hi! Yes, starting is a big hill to climb, but it’s worth it! I started years ago by looking at the resources recommended (organized by year) on [confessionsofahomeschooler.com](http://confessionsofahomeschooler.com) and [homeschoolcreations.net](http://homeschoolcreations.net). Both of those publish lists of what specific books/brands they use for each subject, organized by grade. I used a lot of their suggestions and it helped me start crossing some things off the huge list of resources. Another website to look at is cathyduffyreviews.com- every subject is listed with a lot of the popular brands listed and reviewed.
Finally, consider taking a quiz like this one [http://eclectic-homeschool.com/homeschool-philosophies-quiz/](http://eclectic-homeschool.com/homeschool-philosophies-quiz/) to see what type of homeschooler you want to be! If you want to teach classically or reading lots of books or doing units, that might help too. Best wishes to you!

There certainly is a lot out there! But you’ve got time to explore. Just take it one step at a time and have fun with your little ones. Sometimes you won’t know what you like until you try something. Here are some of my favorites: [http://hopeforhomeschool.blogspot.com/p/homeschool-links.html](http://hopeforhomeschool.blogspot.com/p/homeschool-links.html)

_All About Reading_ (great Pre-reading program for preschoolers too), Timberdoodle (lots of hands-on), and Sonlight (literature-based materials) are some great ones to consider for little ones.

Hi Elizabeth, I know getting started can seem overwhelming! I know getting started can be overwhelming! I wrote a book called Homeschooling 101 that will help answer all of your questions on how to get started homeschooling, choosing curriculum, creating lesson plans, etc.

> **[Homeschooling 101: A Guide to Getting Started.](https://www.amazon.com/Homeschooling-101-Guide-Getting-Started/dp/0692212310/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&qid=1485373073&sr=8-1&keywords=Homeschooling%2B101&linkCode=sl1&tag=c013b-20&linkId=38b72b0a27ca3d7ac93c03bdaccc2a3e)**
>
> 4.3 out of 5 stars,
> ISBN: 978-0692212318,
> Erica Made Designs, LLC,
> April 21, 2013,
> $11.49

And I just released a new eCourse on running and organizing your homeschool household:

> **[Homeschool Organization - Confessions of a Homeschooler](https://go.confessionsofahomeschooler.com/courses/homeschool-organization/)**
>
> Discover How To Organize Your Homeschool - Let me show you how to blend flexibility with structure so you can have your BEST HOMESCHOOLING year yet!

And I have a getting started series that might help as well:

And a Tip Tuesday video series as well that covers specific topics related to homeschooling::
https://www.youtube.com/embed/V9_nTXE-kvI?feature=oembed&wmode=opaque&list=PLiv51fzKv8b-hdF67IDi-wjzIcTmvXxbp

And I also have a “help by grade level” page that might also help you get started researching curriculum:

> **[Help by Grade Level - Confessions of a Homeschooler](https://www.confessionsofahomeschooler.com/help-by-grade-level)**
>
> Looking for information for a specific GRADE level? Click here to get help with curriculum, schedules, lesson plans and more!

I think when getting started, I definitely tried to stick with things that made me feel more comfortable. We started with Abeka just because it was familiar and more “school” like, then we started changing out things as I got a better feel for what we liked/didn’t like.
I hope that helps some, feel free to email me as well if you have specific questions and I’ll do my best to help!
Erica
